Project Overview
Problem
Blooket has been on the market as an e-learning tool for approximately five years. However, without an in-house UX team, the client has encountered difficulties in identifying the pain points of the primary users: educators.
Solution
Through primary and secondary research, our research team identified key user pain-points and recommended potential solutions for improvement of the platform.
Process
My role in the project
As the Lead UX Researcher, I formed the team by bringing in two other researchers on board, acted as a bridge between the stakeholder and the team by communicating effective and efficiently, facilitated team working hours, daily stand ups and weekly scrum, and distributed task amongst the team members.
My job upfront was to craft research plan and organize and design usability testing and interview sessions with users to figure out the pain points and difficulties in using the platform.
Secondary Research
Secondary research provided us insights in areas to improve as well as how Blooket’s user experience and features compare to its competitors.
Competitive Analysis
Direct comparison with 3 direct competitors provided insight in the areas that needed improvement but also how Blooket was able to stand out in the market.
Heuristics Evaluation
Heuristic Evaluation allowed the team to narrow the areas in need of investigation.
Primary Research
Moderated Interview and Usability Testing
Blooket being a e-learning platform, there were two main types of users: Educators and students. We focused on Educator users as they use more functions such as creating question sets, importing a quiz questions, adding multimedia to questions, hosting a game, etc.
Using a screener form, we selected 5 participants to make sure we had diverse participants in age, level of educational institutes (K-12, Higher ed, Tutor/Homeschool), and level of experience with Blooket and other platforms.
Rainbow analysis was done to visualize the data.
Key Insights and Impact
Here are the list of Recommendations we presented to the stakeholders.
- Consider looking into accessibility related areas (font size, voice over, screen reader, image size, clear keyboard commands, etc)
- Provide more options for adding images (e.g. drag & drop, snipping tool)
- Better visible Help and FAQ, include video guides if possible
- Wider support of different import file types (e.g. .xlxs, google sheet link)
- Better filter system for Discovery and Question Bank and bulk edit option
- Increase security to prevent students from hacking the system
- Rethink The ‘Stealing Reward’ feature, as it creates unnecessary conflicts in the classroom
The stakeholders have started working on more detailed Help and FAQ page and will be making implementations to the platform slowly.
